Creative Writing Workshops

Presented by Community Building Art Works
in Partnership with Strathmore

Creative writing is a tool for knowing yourself, understanding the world, and connecting with other people. Led by author Seema Reza and accomplished guest writers—including poets, memoirists, novelists, and storytellers—these community workshops follow the model developed by Community Building Art Works over the course of a decade of bringing people together in military and hospital settings. Each workshop is designed to help participants put their personal stories on paper in a supportive environment.

Whether you’re just starting out or have been writing for years, you are welcome; no experience is required. Bring a pen, a notebook, and an open mind!

Upcoming Virtual Workshops

Honing the Muse

With Yesenia Montilla

Thu, January 21, 7pm

Throughout history, the muses have been forever present in the work of the artist. These muses, whether gods or real people, would manifest creativity without boundaries and with innovation that reshaped the artist’s world. In this workshop, Montilla will lead a discussion of poems that might invoke the muse. We will pay close attention to how inspiration has evolved and how we can find our muses and tap into them to create writing that challenges and surprises us. This workshop is generative and writing intensive. Bring your good pen and your favorite notebook and be set free. There will be time to share participant work.
