The Small Press Expo (SPX) returns to the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center for its annual celebration of independent comics, graphic novels, and cartooning. Founded in 1994 as a nonprofit, SPX provides a platform for artists and publishers producing comic art outside of typical commercial channels.

This year's festival features more than 450 creators, 270 exhibitor tables, and over 20 programs and 18 workshops. Unlike other comic conventions, SPX maintains an open registration policy and does not allow retailers to exhibit, only creators and publishers, giving attendees a chance to connect directly with the people behind the work. The event includes a public exhibition where attendees can browse and purchase graphic novels, comics, and related merchandise, along with a series of panel discussions and interviews with comic creators throughout the weekend.
