Q/A with Brenna Dorsey, owner, SweatHouz
What is your health and wellness background?
I don't have an elaborate health/wellness background. I've always been a research nerd and enjoyed working out. But when I became a mom, I really dove headfirst into children's health and women's health. I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training and taught at Corepower until the birth of my second child and then soon after discovered SWTHZ!
Why did you want to open SweatHouz?
The short, cliché answer - I wanted to open SWTHZ because I wanted to help people. The two simple, but powerful, modalities offered (infrared sauna + cold plunge) truly promote health and overall well-being. There's a lot of conflicting information about what's healthy or good for you, but there's no debate when it comes to the benefits of incorporating infrared sauna/cold plunge into your weekly routine. Whether you're a seasoned athlete, a mom, someone suffering from arthritis or someone who is simply starting out on their own wellness journey - you can maximize your well-being by visiting SWTHZ. It's such an exciting time for the health + wellness industry and SWTHZ is at the forefront of it!
Why did you choose the Pike District?
The vibrancy of the community. The density (plus future developments) and accessibility. And there was nothing like SWTHZ in the Pike District!
Offer some advice when it comes to opening a small business!
Be prepared for the unexpected! But keep a positive mind and spirit.
Share some background! Are you from the area?
I was born and raised in Montgomery County. I graduated from the University of Maryland and met my husband there. We have 2 daughters.
